From its founding, our firm has served as outside counsel to home rule and statutory cites and towns, as well as to special districts.
We work with city attorneys and human resource directors dealing with day-to-day personnel management issues and provide advice on compliance with state and federal employment regulations. We draft and revise personnel policies, and we assist with both hiring and termination issues. We are also familiar with the particular employment law questions that arise from police and fire departments and have represented cities responding to collective bargaining issues.
With respect to employee benefits, we assist with questions about plan design and administration, as well as with significant plan revisions and terminations. We’ve been called on to explain the intricacies of social security to city councils, and to handle disputes over incorrect contributions to public employee retirement plans.
Apart from employment and employee benefits issues, we serve as litigation counsel to both towns and cities. We have significant experience with real estate and construction litigation, as well as with commercial contract disputes.
