Dean C. Heizer

Dean Heizer has been practicing law in Colorado for more than 15 years.  He has extensive experience in all aspects of employment and employee benefits law and serves as lead trial counsel in most of Heizer | Paul’s complex civil litigation matters.

Dean assists our private and public sector clients in navigating the myriad regulatory pitfalls that face employers of every size – from two-person shops, to municipalities and special districts, to multi-national corporations. He has particular expertise in the protection of trade secrets and proprietary corporate information and he frequently litigates issues created by non-competition agreements. Over the past decade, Dean has helped some of Colorado's most prominent health care providers, construction firms, and high-tech companies favorably resolve a wide array of employment-related disputes, both in court and through alternative dispute resolution.

Dean's experience in the area of fiduciary liability issues is unparalleled.  He frequently advises pension and other benefit plan trustees regarding day-to-day operations, regulatory investigations and audits, and plan participant litigation.

A trained geologist, Dean represents our construction industry clients in both arbitration and litigation proceedings.  His commercial litigation practice also includes representing high-tech and venture capital firms faced with complex trial and appellate issues.

Dean is widely regarded as an energetic and entertaining instructor, and frequently lectures on human resources issues.  He is deeply committed to the Colorado Campaign for Inclusive Excellence and that organization’s efforts to increase diversity within the legal profession.  Dean also enthusiastically supports Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains and the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance.
